Photo Video Days at Calumet in Hamburg. The programme had a live acrobatics shoot at the Canon stand from 12:00 to 12:45, led by Michael Marczok: two artists on the pole, a black curtain behind them, and in front of them everyone who wanted to photograph.

I photographed for 21 minutes, 21 seconds of it with flash — with more than five photographers crowded tightly around the set. What came out of it can be seen here. The rest of the event was not intended for publication.

Thanks to Calumet for hosting, to Michael Marczok for leading the shoot, and to the models for their rather exhausting effort. Still managing to smile through it is an achievement in itself.

21st Glückstadt Culture Night, Saturday evening in the old town centre. The concept is called “cultural bites”: short programme slots of about half an hour each, but in many places at the same time — Markt, Fleth, harbour and Kirchplatz, all within walking distance.

For photography that means one thing above all: pace. Rarely more than fifteen minutes between two slots, and as close as the venues are to one another, they are not next door. The evening was less a stroll than a run from station to station.

Then there was the turnout. The smaller venues were full throughout, some of them simply packed. Getting in was often half the work — finding a spot from which a picture was possible at all was the other half.

The finest place of the evening was the town church, for its atmosphere, for the room itself. Truly beautiful pictures were possible there: early in the evening the vocal ensemble with “A Little Jazz Mass”, and at the end once more “Wo sind die Clowns?”.

Outside on the market square MC Mac Cool was at work, in the vaults of the Königskeller SwingKiss played, and between the shelves of the town library sat Lucky Uke.

In the Palais für aktuelle Kunst the piano trio Hosho played. In the Lütt Huus the only performance of the evening took place.

Of course that was far from everything. But I don’t want to pre-empt the pictures in the series.

Seventh festival day, my fifth — and the last at the NØRDEN. Saturday on the Königswiesen.

The afternoon belonged to the third NØRDEN Air Guitar Contest on the garden stage. Beginners and veterans, some had decided only at short notice and stood up there for the first time. It was hard to judge the performances. All of them brought their very own charm.

Participants are already being sought for the next, the fourth contest — air guitar is evidently a discipline with a future, and the prizes come “on top” of the frenetic cheers of the audience.

Jens Ohle, acrobatic comedy in the Manege im Park, was the second reason for many pictures. I won’t spoil the ending — but whoever attends the show will find out soon enough.

Lùisa on the Schlei stage: expressive facial play, plus lighting that joins in. Lion’s mane included!

Of course there was more. But I don’t want to pre-empt the pictures in the series.

Sixth festival day, my fourth. Friday in the Königswiesen city park.

The highlight of the evening was in the Manege im Park, twice over: Les Goulus, mounted street theatre from Paris — a mix of Ministry of Silly Walks, cast with Gumbys (Monty Python).

Then on the Schlei stage ON! aka Tequila & The Sunrise Gang: after 24 years a new name, German lyrics, the old punch. Bring it ON!

Bruchbude played the garden stage — and left no wreck behind.
